Techniques:

Figuring Storming

  • Imagine you are someone else

    • An important historical figure, your boss, a famous actress

    • Ex; Justin Timberlake of NSYNC

  • Address your problem statement from their point of view

    • Ask questions [1]

    • Ex; What would Justin Timberlake do if he encountered this problem?

Star-Bursting

  • Focuses on creating questions about the project

  • Start with the “who,” “what,” “where,” “when,” and “why” [1]

  • Ex; Who could this innovation help? What are the interested in? Why would they not use this technology?

Free Writing

  • Set aside a small amount of time; 5 - 10 minutes

  • Write on a piece of paper any idea that pops into your head

  • Avoid lifting the pen from the paper

  • Ignore regular writing constraints; grammar, punctuation, spelling [2]
